Junior Mathematics Enrichment Classes in Thurles

Junior Mathematics Enrichment Classes in Thurles are offered by the Department of Mathematics and Computer Studies at Mary Immaculate College in conjunction with the Irish Mathematical Trust. They are free of charge, run by talented tutors, and are designed to develop a sound understanding of mathematics and to improve problem-solving skills. We hope that students will develop friendships through mathematics. There is little overlap with the maths taught in school.

JME Classes 2026

Junior Maths Enrichment Classes will commence in Autumn 2026. They will take place on one weekday evenings after 6 pm.

The classes will take place on the grounds of the Thurles campus of Mary Immaculate College. Eircode: E41 C424, Google Maps.

Junior Mathematics Enrichment Courses are also run at other places in Ireland. Details can be found on the website of the Irish Mathematical Olympiad.

What is it?

Participants work in a relaxed environment with college students and meet new ideas and skills, which we hope will deepen their interest in the subject. Students will learn through problem-solving. Some activities are related to games like Sets, Dominoes, Mind-reading games and others. There will be a lot of teamwork and team quiz competitions.

Who is it for?

Junior Mathematics Enrichment aims at 2nd and 3rd year secondary school students with a genuine interest in mathematics and at 1st year students with advanced mathematical abilities. Students who find these classes too easy or have finished their 3rd year will be very welcome at Senior Maths Enrichment classes, for example in Limerick.
